This week I’m determined to do a better job of creating a “new normal” while staying home. I’ve been filled with anxiety for a solid week now and need to shake that off. It’s not helpful! My hat goes off to all of you who are keeping your days as productive as possible.
On Tuesday I decided to put a little more effort into meal preparation, which led to talking to a closet.
Let me explain:
On Tuesday I cooked up a lovely kielbasa and bean soup for dinner. It made the house smell great and it tasted delishy. Soup needs fresh bread, so I made biscuits, substituting butter for shortening in a recipe I found online. But that was probably too much butter because the oven got very smokey, setting off the fire alarm.
Recently we upgraded our CPI security system—changing it from landline to mobile (we’re probably the last people on Earth to do that). The control panel of the system lives in our coat closet. And when the smoke alarm goes off, CPI no longer calls us. Instead, they talk to us directly from that panel. I forgot about this feature. Until I cooked those buttery biscuits and made the kitchen very smokey.
So the smoke detector went off. Then I heard someone in the closet saying that the fire department had been sent. My pitiful memory started filling in the blanks as I ran to said chatty closet, yelling, “don’t send the fire department!”
Closet responded politely and we proceeded to have a bit of a conversation. It felt very strange. The whole scene still makes me laugh!
The biscuits were oh so good. Worth the smokey kitchen.
What are you doing while staying home?
There are sooooo many online courses to take, concerts to watch and, my favorite, National Parks to tour. It’s all overwhelming to me and keeps me glued to the computer, which I don’t want to do. So I’m only going to share the Google Earth National Parks tour right here. It’s amazing!
Stay safe my friends.
With sparkle and texture,
Anne
