Don't Get Rid of Your Formal Dining Room Furniture!

If you think your gorgeous old dining room furniture is dated and old, consider how you can update it before you decide to get rid of it. While many people still choose to blast those old chairs with a coat of paint, I can't help but notice that we're slowly starting to step away from the painted furniture trend and enjoying beautiful wood finishes again.  So when a client asked me to update her Dining Room, I made it happen with fabric (and a fabulous new light fixture).

She has 4 side chairs and 2 armchairs.  Here's one of them:

Gorgeous wood, nice lines, but the fabric is lacking in personality and looks too much like the carpet!

We had the chairs reupholstered in a fabric that's still neutral, but has a much more modern personality.

Now it feels a bit less formal and shows off the warm wood finish.

With the new fabric on the chairs, fantastic window treatments and the sculptural light fixture, this room is ready for it's second act.  We mixed styles a bit to make it interesting, too.  The window treatment fabric is very traditional and the chair fabric is a retro shape.  By keeping the colors similar, they work together very well.

A little closer. Do you love the buttons on the back that were covered in a contrasting fabric?

The new custom window treatments added some nice warmth to the space without heaviness. Look at that contrast welt at the very top. Custom details!

We also got rid of the dust collector--I mean silk tree--in the corner and moved their gorgeous Grandfather clock into that space.  Now they're ready to entertain family and friends in style!

Ciao,
