Sitting quietly, reading, listening and learning.

Luckily for the world, my activities during this time in our history have consisted of sitting quietly, reading, listening and learning. No one needs to hear my opinions, fears or lamentations. Brilliant people are speaking and I’m so grateful to learn from them.

But…. (uh oh, you knew there was a “but”)…I’m an interior designer and my interest in the powerful effect of home still burns brightly. Home can heal, rest, stimulate, shelter, protect and foster the attitudes that you take out into the world. As the little girl said, there’s no place like it.

I came across a video the other day that I want to share with you - you’ve probably already seen it, so forgive the repeat. But it’s such a good summary of how many families in the U.S. acquired homes in the 20th century. It’s also a great explanation and example of the concept of generational wealth.

There’s nothing political about this video - it’s just a history lesson told in a small dose, which is the only way I can absorb history lessons. When I watched it last, there was a political survey sort of ad at the beginning - skip on past that and you’re home free.

Oh, and have you seen Hamilton on Disney+ yet? I’m going to watch it again and again. While Lin Manuel Miranda admits to taking some liberty with the facts, it’s still another dose of history that I was able to enjoy last week.

That’s a lot of history in one week, but it sure beats scrolling on social media for me. No judgment on you in that - I need to break the scrolling habit as it doesn’t feel good. It keeps me looking down and I prefer the view when looking up!

Actually, learning about our history doesn’t always feel good either, but that’s how honest, effective, caring change happens, right?

Sorry, I digress. I’ll embed the video - fingers crossed that it works.

It will be back to design and decorating talk in my next post because I’ve been saving up some great ideas and activities to take you all through the summer and get your home ready for the Fall.

With sparkle and texture,
