3 Virtual Performances To Cheer You Up

I need some cheering up (I’m just Covid-weary and missing my kids), and I thought you might need it too. Read this post right away so you can enjoy these virtual performances while they’re still available!

Handel’s Messiah is performed every year at Duke Chapel.  This year you can view it on your laptop or TV screen by going here.  I’ve watched and listened and, even though it’s not in the Chapel, which has the most amazing acoustics, it’s still glorious.  And it’s free through Christmas.

Raleigh’s Theatre In The Park presents Ira David Wood’s version of “A Christmas Carol” every year. It’s a funny musical version, with insanely talented actors and he always sprinkles current events into the dialogue. This year it’s being streamed, which is fantastic! It’s not free, but it’s a whole lot cheaper than the usual ticket price and you get to watch it from your sofa anytime this month. I promise you’ll enjoy it! Here’s the link to buy a ticket.

And have you seen “One Night Only: The Best Of Broadway?”  It’s a lot of fun for us Broadway fans. Tina Fey is the host. It’s always nice to see Tina, right?

I miss getting dressed up (or at least wearing something other than jeans or comfy leggings), attending live events, going out to dinner, seeing lots of flesh and blood people –oh, I miss so many things.

Make up and jewelry!

Big girl shoes!

Heading downtown!

But all the streaming events and special TV shows have been helpful to get me feeling the holiday spirit.  Seeing how the creative community has pushed through and found ways to bring us their talents has been awesome and life affirming. People are amazing, aren’t they?

Put these shows on your calendar to watch this weekend or when you’re wrapping gifts, baking cookies or just ready to chill in your favorite chair. Music and laughter make everything feel better.

And don’t forget to go out of your way to be kind to people every day. Tis the season!

With sparkle and texture,

Anne
